Clinical applications

Interventional oncology. Cryoneurolysis.

Image-guided percutaneous cryoablation with one added planning variable: the direction of the freeze.

Interventional oncology

Tumor ablation and palliation.

Both modes are part of the cleared system, so directional mode is available for tumor ablation as well as for nerves.

Indicated for ablation of cancerous or malignant tissue and benign tumors, and palliative intervention, including palliation of pain associated with metastatic lesions involving bone in patients who have failed or are not candidates for standard radiation therapy.

Circumferential mode places a 360° freeze around the probe; directional mode places it on one side, so each probe’s ablation zone can be oriented within a multi-probe plan.

The console runs up to four probes at a time with live temperature for each, and can optionally display the CT series in axial, sagittal, coronal and 3D views.

NERVEDIRECTIONAL · ~180°10 mm

Cryoneurolysis

Freezing of nerve tissue.

Directional mode places the freeze on the cold side of the probe, marked on the handle, so the ablation zone can be oriented toward the nerve intended for treatment.

Indicated for freezing of nerve tissue in pain management/cryoanalgesia, within the cleared fields of neurology (including cryoanalgesia) and thoracic surgery (with the exception of cardiac tissue).

Verify the direction and orientation of the directional isotherm prior to beginning treatment.

Planning with direction

Orient each freeze zone.

Seen end-on, directional probes placed on either side of a target can each be oriented with the cold side facing the target.

Procedure workflow

Six steps, inside a standard CT-guided procedure.

The console rolls into the CT suite the team already uses and runs on argon and standard wall power.

  1. Set up

Connect argon and power, let the console self-check, and connect every probe before the argon tank is opened. CT import is optional.

  2. Test

Run the built-in Cryoprobe Test on each probe in sterile saline before it enters the patient.

  3. Place

Place probes under CT guidance using the depth markings. An optional 30-second stick freeze holds a probe in position.

  4. Orient · directional only

Turn the cold side, marked by the blue strip, toward the target and verify its direction and orientation on imaging.

  5. Treat

Choose the mode for each probe. Freeze and thaw under closed-loop temperature control with live temperatures on screen.

  6. Confirm

Image the ablation, thaw, remove the probes once thawed, and export the case data.

Visualization must be used at all times during a cryosurgical procedure. Illustrative sequence only, not a clinical recommendation. Refer to the Instructions for Use and Operator’s Manual.
